Having been a massage therapist since 2000, I have had the opportunity to learn many modalities and techniques as they relate to therapeutic massage. By far the most profound changes that I have experienced in my own body as well as those that I have had the opportunity to share my learning with have come from Structural Energetic Therapy.
Structural Energetic Therapy addresses the cranial and structural aspects of the individual and allows the unwinding of long held patterns of the cranial core distortion. The cranial core distortion (CCD) is characterized by a left anterior illium, a posterior right illium, and results in a tipped sacrum which does not support a strong and stable spinal column. By releasing the cranial fascia the distortions that are found throughout the rest of the body can be effectively released using focused and specialized myofascial protocols. These cranial releases coupled with the specific myofascial release protocols provide dramatic sustainable changes in strength, balance, and reduction of pain by creating a level sacrum and consequently a stable base for the spinal column. I believe that most people benefit from a slower pace and a longer treatment, and I have encouraged my clients to experience the benefits of such a treatment. Most of my massage sessions are 2 full hours, often longer.
Some of my clients have a difficult time being "quiet" for the longer sessions that I offer, and for those individuals, I offer 1 hour sessions as well. Many times a client will have a specific concern or problem and in those instances, a 1 hour session can be adequate and appropriate.
As a graduate of Don McCann's Structural Energetic Therapy (SET Phase 1 Spinal Stabilization) as well as Erik Dalton and the Myoskeletal Alignment Method, I am a level 2 advanced myoskeletal therapist and an advanced lower body specialist. The myoskeletal approach to bodywork incorporates many different techniques, including myofascial release, trigger point therapy, neuromuscular reprogramming, muscle energy techniques, and resisted stretching. The myoskeletal approach to bodywork addresses the muscles, the fascia, the bones, the ligaments, the tendons, and works with the nervous system to bring all of these tissues into greater harmony and the body in to better alignment. The result is improved range of motion, diminished pain, and improved posture.
